Good News Preschool Staff


Suzi Simmons

Suzi is a native Austinite.  She attended Westwood High School, graduating in 1993.  She attended Trinity University where she earned her bachelor degree as well as a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree. 

Suzi is a
former first grade teacher, having taught in Pflugerville ISD and Round Rock ISD.  She spent several years as a substitute teacher in Leander ISD.  Last year she was so blessed to join the Good News Preschool, teaching in the older 2's/younger 3's room.  She is very excited to take on the role of assistant director this year.

Suzi has been married to her college sweetheart, Brian for 18 years. They have two daughters, Katie and Angie, ages 12 and 8.  Her family belongs to Live Oak Church where Brian serves as an elder and Suzi teaches Sunday School. 

Suzi is a breast cancer survivor.  She was diagnosed in January of 2014.  Having undergone chemotherapy and a bilateral mastectomy, she found incredible strength through her faith in God and the love of her family and friends. She has a new zest for life post-cancer and loves spending her time with family and friends, traveling, reading, exercising and doing crafts of all kinds!


Donna Lecocq
4/5 Year Old Lead Teacher

Donna was born in Kewanee, Illinois, the youngest of four daughters. She graduated Kewanee High School in 1993 and attended the University of Illinois for two years before graduating with a degree in Agriculture and a minor in Journalism from Southern Illinois University in 1997. 

She met her husband, Paul, an engineer with IBM, while attending SIU. They married in 1999, and moved to Texas in 2000 following his graduation. Donna began her Masters in Education at the University of Texas in 2000, and after a brief sabbatical to have two children, graduated in 2005 with her MEd in Higher Education.

Donna became a stay-at-home mom to her sons Marc and Benjamin in 2005. She is a dedicated home educator, and has worked as a Mother's Day Out teacher, afterschool teacher, and afterschool program director over the past 10 years.


Donna and her family are members of North Point Church. She and Paul serve together in children's ministry.

Donna loves reading, cleaning and organizing her home, camping with her family in their travel trailer, and watching her sons, Marc and Benjamin, compete in gymnastics. She and Paul celebrated 16 years of marriage in May. 


Wendy Becker
4/5 Year Old Lead Teacher

Wendy and her family are originally from Arizona, but moved to Texas from Oregon in 2013. She enjoys the thrilling rollercoaster ride of marriage alongside her loving and adventurous husband, Thon. Together they are having fun exploring Texas with their two sons Kayin (2000), and Jaden (2003).

She loves to spend quality time with her friends, family and neighbors enjoying various indoor and outdoor activities such as game or movie nights, hiking, bicycle rides, BBQ’s, and all types of parks. She also can be discovered reading, crafting, singing, dancing, and baking.

Her journey of becoming a Preschool Teacher started at the age of nineteen, while she worked as an Assistant Preschool Teacher. During this time, she became passionate about teaching in her own classroom one day. When her sons were younger, she stayed home and continued to be involved in their early childhood and elementary education by volunteering in their classrooms, assisting the office staff, and serving on the boards of the Mom’s Club, PTA, PTC, and Cub Scouts.

As for her education, she is currently attending Austin Community College to further her career in Early Childhood Education and Development.

Wendy believes in nurturing each child’s authentic self by guiding them to wonder about the world around them, explore the answers to thousands of questions, imagine all possibilities, and to master the essential skills needed on their own journeys. She is delighted to begin a new adventure with all your Families!   


Roxanne Schmidt
3/4 Year Old Lead Teacher

Roxanne was born and raised on the High Plains, near Lubbock Texas.  She attended McMurry University and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1993 with a degree in Medical Technology. 

Good News UMC has been her family’s church home since its first worship service in February of 2002.

Roxanne has been active in many aspects of church life during these 12 years.  Roxanne has many fond memories of teaching children’s Sunday school, choir, and Vacation Bible School.  She has spent summers attending Glen Lake church camp with children from Good News Church.  Roxanne has cooked many meals for Youth Mission Trip and Youth Sunday Suppers.  

She enjoys being a “Friend in Faith”, to the young teenagers in Confirmation classes.
Roxanne is a certified Special Education teacher.  She most recently taught middle school students with special needs in the Leander ISD. This will be her second year of teaching at Good News Preschool.

Roxanne has two lovely daughters; Katie, a graduate of McMurry University , and Toni, a senior at Tarleton State University.  Her family enjoys camping, kayaking, and working on the family ranch.   






Carole Carrell
2/3 Year Old Lead Teacher


Carole was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1950.  She has lived in Tucson, Bakersfield and Taft, California, Midland, Texas, London, England, Sumatra, Indonesia, Prescott, Arizona, and moved to Austin, Texas in 2012 to be closer to her daughter and her family.
She has been a stay at home mom all her life and has attended classes at different universities and colleges, taught Woman’s Time Management at Midland College, worked in classrooms many years as Room Mom and substitute teacher, taught Indonesian children English, attended and was a group leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for years, and cared for the elderly.

Carole has been a born again believer in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord of her life since 1972 and now attends Austin Stone Community Church, St. John’s Campus.  Over the years she has been involved in BSF,  served as a junior high and high school Sunday school teacher and attended yearly Hume Lake Christian Camp conferences. She sang in the choir, taught in the young ladies Missionette program, attended and led home Bible Studies, mentored young women, was a mentor mom in MOPS (Moms Of Preschoolers), and has just taken a women’s development theology class.  She is ministering to young mothers and couples in her neighborhood and is enrolled in a continuing education class (Equip to Counsel) at the Austin Stone.


Carole has been married to Mike Carrell, her high school sweetheart, for 46 years. She still calls him Sweetheart J  Mike is a retired petroleum engineer from Chevron.  After retirement he attended Arizona Culinary Institute and is a professional chef.  He currently is involved in Austin Stone’s recovery discipleship ministry, and ministers to young married couples in the neighborhood.
Carole enjoys as much time as she can with her grandsons, memorizing scripture , talking about the Lord, golfing, swimming, playing cards and games, sleepovers, taking them skiing (although she does not ski), and going to ALL their sports programs.  You might say she’s their biggest cheerleader!

Carole enjoys her daughter, Kristen and her family.  Kristen and her husband, Anthony, are both graduates of Texas A & M and have four sons ages 5 to 15, who live in Cedar Park, Texas.   She also enjoys her son Michael jr. who just moved to Phoenix, Arizona from Utah.   Michael jr. and his wife, Vanessa, have two sons ages 2 and 5.  Michael jr. is a graduate from The University of Arizona like his father and Vanessa is a graduate from Arizona State University.  III John : 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Carole looks forward to every visit to see her mother, Evelyn (who just turned 95) , in Tucson, Arizona, where she and her mother spend hours of time with the Lord.

Carole considers it a blessing to be a part of the team of staff and teachers at Good News Pre-school and is privileged and honored to be there.  She is very much looking forward to engaging all her new little “students” in learning about the love that God has for each one of them.



2/3 Year Old Lead Teacher

Dulce was born in the Dominican Republic. She attended University Autónoma of Santo Domingo (UASD) where she earned her bachelor degree of Education in Social Sciences in 2005. In 2009, she finished a Post Graduate Certificate in Management of Health and Social Services at the Institute of Technology of Santo Domingo (INTEC). Dulce has of 5 years of experience as an educator and 9 years of experience in Health administration at a hospital.

After she finished her Post Graduate certificate, she accepted her husband proposal to come to USA. She lived in Rochester NY, and later follow her husband around the country, and finally settled in Leander, Texas.


Dulce and her husband Josue have been married for 7 years. They have 3 kids, Josue, Sara and Leslie. She have been at home raising and teaching her kids Spanish language.
Dulce and her family are members of El Shaddai Austin church. There, she serves as a Sunday school teacher and her husband as an usher.

She loves to work with kids, travel, cook and play with her kids in the park.


Jan Grimm
18 Mo/2 Year Old Teacher

Jan grew up in Southern California. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and teaching certification from California Baptist University.

She taught elementary school in Riverside California before moving to Arizona. In Arizona Jan taught 3rd and 4th grade and middle school science at Christian Academy of Prescott. She also completed her Master of Art Education degree at Northern Arizona University.

Jan and her husband Doug recently moved to Georgetown and love living in Texas. They have three grown children, Keri, Keith, and Thomas who are all married and six adorable grandchildren.

In addition to classroom teaching Jan has taught Sunday School, VBS, and has been a counselor and crafts instructor at several summer camps. Jan accepted Jesus as her Savior at age 16 and has been involved in Christian education ever since. She enjoys spending time with her family, arts and crafts, and watching creativity blossom in her students.


Pam Hanes

Pam was born in Northern California, where she also lived in a small farming town in the country.  She grew up in a Christian home and accepted the Lord in her life at 13.  

Pam worked in the public school system for over 17 years as a Para Educator for Special Education.  Pam has also worked with preschool-high school aged children.   She worked as an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing, one on one as an oral interpreter, and in a learning center. She truly has enjoyed seeing the growth of the students that that she has worked with over the years. 

Pam and her Husband, Mark, are high school sweet heart, has been married to her best friend for 32 years. The Lord blessed them with 3 awesome boys which have been the joy of her life.  Now they are young men.  

Their oldest son, Wesley, is married to Natalie and they have 3 children, Aubrie 8, Drew 4 and baby Ryder.  Their son, Ryan, will soon be married to Angela in Nov. and their son, Garrett, will soon be married to Emily in May. They Love it! The family is growing!

Mark and Pam moved to Texas in Dec.2013. Some of their family came here before them so that opened up the doors for them to come too. They have truly enjoyed all the bike trails around this area, and you can see that Texas really thinks about the people here.  They see the pride of Texas! 
Pam enjoys bike riding, sewing, cooking, kayaking, gardening and spending time with her family. She is so excited for what the Lord has in store for them in the years ahead.


Kim McCauley

God our Father, Jesus our Savior, and the Holy Spirit, our comforter and advocate are everything to Kimberly who was born in Michigan and primarily grew up on a farm in East Central Indiana. After graduating from Delta High School in 1989 she attended Cumberland College in Kentucky. She graduated from Cumberland College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary/Special Education. 

She has 5 children, ages 7-16 a dog, Nakari, and cat, Mama. In her spare time she likes to sew, quilt, draw, paint, cook, bake, play the flute, and sing. When Kimberly grows older she wants to be a chef.

Krystal Wolski

My name is Krystal Wolski and I was born and raised in Austin, TX.  I graduated from McNeil High School in 1995.

My family and I moved to Leander in 2014  from Round Rock. I have been married to my husband, Brad for 12 years and we have two boys. Parker who is 11 and Gage who is 5.

I have been a stay at home mom for the last 11 years and wanted to get back in with working with kids when they both started school. Kids are my passion and have been since I was a kid myself.

I am very involved with my church and help run the children's ministry.  I enjoy spending time outside or being with my family.


Kathleen Kani

Kathleen, or Miss Kat to the kids, was born and raised in Austin. She is 20 years old and has been working with kids since the age of 14. She has three younger siblings, a cat, and two dogs. This will be her second year at Good News Preschool.
Kat has worked with various ages from preschool to 5th grade. In addition to GN, she also coaches the cheer team at Zero Gravity with Lindsay.

Kat's Sundays are spent at Northpoint in Leander with her younger siblings. She serves in the high school ministry as the sophomore girls small group leader. She's been attending Northpoint since October of 2015 and was recently baptized in April of 2016.


In her free time, Kat loves to paint. She also loves to spend time outdoors in her hammock or landscaping in the backyard. She also attends ACC where she's going to school to get her childcare program certification.


Lynsey Surrell


My name is Lynsey Surrell and I was born and raised in Oakland ca, we moved to Leander 3.5 years ago and we are so happy to call Texas home. I am married to a wonderful husband and we have 4 beautiful children. Kobi is 14, Maniyah 12, Mekhi 6 and Layla is 2. I have been involved in early child development since my first son was born so it has been about 14years. I really enjoy working with little ones because it is so amazing watching them grow so much in such a short time. I am thrilled to get to know everyone and I look forward to a great year.
